KELLER, Wash. – The Swawilla Fire has grown to over 40,000 acres and was 10% contained Saturday morning.

According to the Colville Tribes Environmental Trust Program, firefighters have been able to make progress despite wind conditions creating additional difficulty for emergency responders.

“In the area of Buffalo Lake, firefighters were able to advance line along the flank of the fire. While managers are feeling optimistic about this western edge, there is still work to do before the Level 3 Evacuation can be lifted for residents in this area,” the trust program said.

The Bridge Creek Fire, which is burning in a similar area, was 20% contained Saturday morning and had burned nearly 4,000 acres.
