KOOTENAI COUNTY, Idaho — Kootenai County has established an ordinance to limit intolerable barking in the morning and evening.
According to the Kootenai County Government, dogs that bark within hearing distance of others for 15 minutes at 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. are prohibited. This rule also applies if the dog barks for at least ten minutes during these hours without being silent for at least 60 seconds.
This rule is out of consideration to maintain the comfort and peace of those within hearing distance.
According to Ordinance No. 595, it does not apply to commercial kennels, animal shelters, guard dogs, or dogs that protect other domesticated animals or livestock.
There has yet to be a determined fine or punishment for dog owners who break this new law.
