SPOKANE VALLEY- Addyson Shafer, the 13-year-old girl who accidentally drowned in Clear Lake Saturday, was a dancer at Spokane Elite Dance Studio for almost 10 years.

Shafer was a part of the studio’s Competitive Lyrical Dance team and even received a dance scholarship in 2023 to train in New York City.

“She was the one that I would always call out in class and say ‘You guys, watch her dance!’,” Mackenzie Vermillion, a dance teacher at the studio, said.

The consensus amongst the staff at Spokane Elite Dance Studio is that Shafer was a true performer and a talented dancer.

After she tragically drowned Saturday, the faculty told NonStop Local that there is now a hole in their dance community.

“I taught classes last night and one of my dancers excelled in a step that I know Addyson had been working with her… on the side. And, I just looked up to the sky and I was like ‘that was from Addy’,” Leeanna Allison, a dance teacher, said.

In honor of her memory, teachers and students at the studio made bracelets with the name “Addy” on them.
