COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho – As one mayor steps down, another rises in his place after a unanimous vote placed Woody McEvers as the new interim mayor of Coeur d’Alene.
McEvers was previously a City Councilman and was appointed interim mayor to start his term Sept. 1.
Dan Goodkin nominated McEvers for the position, and McEvers was appointed on a 6-0 unanimous vote.
McEvers has called North Idaho home since 1978 and has experience in Traffic Safety and Commission, the Planning Commission, Chairman of Kootenai County EMS System, Chairman of the Public Works Committee and now City Council President.
“I really believe we, the Council, Mayor and staff, strive to do what is best for Coeur d’Alene citizens today and for the future,” McEvers said in a statement on the city’s website. “One person can make a difference.”
The interim position opened up after of Coeur d’Alene, announced he would step down before the completion of his term.
Hammond will step down Aug. 31 as he and his family plan to relocate to Colorado to be closer to his youngest son and grandchildren.
McEvers has accomplished many projects in his years of service in northern Idaho including the Riverstone Development, KROC Center, the new Library, expansion of our Wastewater Treatment Facility and creation of the City’s newest water well.
He encouraged the people of northern Idaho to make their requests and ideas for the future known as he takes his position.
