SPOKANE, Wash. – Former Interim Chief of the Spokane Police Department (SPD) Justin Lundgren concluded 27 years with the force Monday.

“As former Assistant Chief of Tucson Police Kevin Hall assumes leadership of the SPD, Lundgren is looking back on nearly three decades as an officer with the municipal police force.”

Lundgren was appointed interim chief after Lisa Brown won the Spokane mayoral race in late 2023.

His eight months leading the SPD were marked with several major police shootings that posed a challenge to the police force and drew criticism from Spokane Community Against Racism (SCAR).

He focused on promoting public and officer safety during his time leading the department, with a particular emphasis on the dangers posed by drive by shootings.

As of Monday, Lundgren is now an inspector with the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office. Mayor Lisa Brown signed a proclamation thanking Lundgren for his years of service to the department Monday.

“I, Lisa Brown, Mayor of the City of Spokane, on behalf of the people of Spokane, do hereby salite Chief Justin Lundgren for his 27 years of dedicated service,” the salutation said.
