SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane Public Schools (SPS) Board Director Melissa Bedford announced her resignation Tuesday.
Bedford has served on the SPS Board of Directors since 2022 and is the executive director of Spark Central Spokane. She holds a PhD in Education and taught at Eastern Washington University for four years.
She cited a new opportunity in a different area as her reason for leaving the school board, and thanked Spokane students, families and staff.
“One of the reasons I ran to serve was to bring an educator’s voice to the table and I hope the community feels I achieved that goal during my time on the board,” Bedford said.
Bedford will be replaced by board-appointed candidate in the next 90 days, who will have to run for the role in November 2025 if they wish to serve a full term.
