SPOKANE, Wash—The Spokane Police Department had some fun in the sun on Wednesday at Friendship Park through its Police Activities League program. The program aims to bridge the gap between Spokane’s youth and the department.
Officer Micah Prim said almost 100 kids ages 8 to 15 showed up at Friendship Park, which marked the last day of the five-week program aptly nicknamed P.A.L.
Camps were held across the city at Friendship Park, Shadle Park, and Grant Park. During the event youth from across the Lilac City played soccer and other outdoor activities. Ptrim says this is not only fun but an important component as it helps to build and instill the program’s core values, which are respect, honesty, leadership, and sportsmanship.
“It’s so important to create that relationship between the neighborhoods and the police so we can support the youth in our community, whether that is regular kids or at-risk youth that need to foster a positive relationship with the police,” said Prim.
Along with sweating it out on the field, officers had conversations about good judgment, drug and alcohol intervention and prevention, internet safety and family safety plans
Wednesday, Aug. 7, was the last day of the camp, but you can sign up your kids for next summer here.
