PULLMAN, Wash. — Pullman firefighters battled a major fire Friday afternoon at a single-family home.
According to the City of Pullman Fire Department, the fire, which occurred on Aug. 9 at 425 NW Darrow Street, caused most of the damage to the home’s second floor. Firefighters received the call shortly after 4 p.m. about smoke coming from the structure.
Upon arrival, they observed smoke pouring from broken windows on the second floor and immediately called for a second alarm to bring in additional personnel. Pullman Fire reported that attacking the fire from the back of the home through the windows allowed other crews to approach the fire from the front of the structure.
Pullman Fire estimated that 40% of the home, including the kitchen, living room, and bedroom on the second floor, was damaged by the fire. They also noted additional water damage on the lower floor. A city building inspector on the scene reported that the home was not habitable. The homeowner was out of town, and there were no reported injuries.
Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire and assess the total damages.
