SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Valley Fire Department (SVFD) recently honored a Spokane County deputy and two local residents for their life-saving actions in recent emergencies.

Deputy Trevor Ball was recognized for his courageous efforts during a house fire that endangered the lives of two people. The incident occurred on July 8 at approximately 3:30 a.m., when the Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to a mobile home fire on the 900 block of North Bowman Road. Deputy Ball played a crucial role in evacuating the two residents, a mother and her son, who had been alerted to the danger by smoke detectors.

In a separate commendation, two Spokane residents were acknowledged for their intervention in a drowning incident in the Spokane River. On July 14 at around 6 p.m., emergency crews were dispatched to a call about an unconscious victim on a rock in the river near Coyote Rock. The bystanders who intervened performed CPR and the victim was later transported to the hospital by emergency responders.

The awards were presented today at the SVFD Commissioners’ Meeting, where all three individuals were honored with the lifesaving award from the department.
