SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – A local sports chiropractor just lived his dream of working with Team USA Track and Field in Paris for the Olympics; his journey is inspirational.
Dr. Asdrubal Lopez’s parents left all of their family in Mexico to come to America and look for a better life. At a young age, Dr. Lopez knew he wanted to be a doctor of some kind, and eventually, he picked chiropractic.
While in school, his class was visited by someone who had just returned from working the Olympics, and that’s when he knew his goal would be to someday do the same.
Once he graduated in 2010, he became a professional sports chiropractor, and in 2013, he started his own business, Summit Therapy & Chiropractic Institute in Spokane Valley.
That allowed him to travel the world and get qualified to work the Olympics. Since 2015, he’s been working with world-class athletes at various competitions, making connections that eventually landed him in Paris working with Team USA Track and Field.
“It’s so much more than just going to the Olympics,” said Dr. Lopez. “I’m living the American dream, my personal dream, and my future generation’s dream…”
Dr. Lopez says the entire experience was a dream come true.
From walking around the village, seeing all the different countries and sports in one place, sitting at the dinner table with people from all around the world, to shaking Steph Curry’s hand at the opening ceremonies, seeing Simone Biles and LeBron James walking around just a few feet away.
Seeing the determination and work ethic that has led all different athletes to competing at a world-class level, but Dr. Lopez says nothing was as special as walking into the stadium for the first time.
“The coolest part of that trip, where it kind of hit home was walking into the stadium,” said Dr. Lopez. “It’s an 80,000-fan stadium, people roaring, people screaming, it was an amazing atmosphere, there was no empty seat…”
Dr. Lopez says he’s proud of what he’s accomplished, and he hopes it inspires his family to chase their dreams in the future.
