CASCADE VALLEY, Wash. — One man is in custody after breaking car windows and threatening officers with a butcher knife Sunday afternoon.

According to the Grant County Sheriff’s Office (GCSO), their deputies and Moses Lake police took the man into custody after receiving a call of a man walking away from a house fire with a steel bar. Deputies found the man walking on Valley Road near Ottmar Road, tried de-escalating the situation, and told the suspect to drop the steel bar.

According to GCSO, the man did not obey their commands to drop the steel bar and pulled out a butcher knife, threatening officers. The man dropped the knife and then proceeded to smash the windows of parked cars with the bar.

Deputies and police tried to take control of the situation and used less lethal weapons like a taser and bean bag projectiles, which had little effect on the suspect. Law enforcement was able to take the suspect into custody after showing him their sidearms.

The suspect now faces charges related to the damaged cars and resisting arrest. He is also under suspicion for the nearby house fire.
