Heavy police presence in downtown Spokane due to crash

SPOKANE, Wash. – The Spokane Police Department are investigating a crash in downtown Spokane near Lincoln Street and 3rd Avenue

Updated Aug. 23 at 6 a.m. – A crash in downtown Spokane is being investigated by police after a victim in the crash reported a brake malfunction.

The Spokane Police Department is investigating the crash that occurred around 2 a.m. on Lincoln Street.

A passenger at the scene told police and NonStop Local that he was at a birthday party and was intoxicated. He asked a friend to drive his car home, but the friend crashed the car.

The owner of the car said they were traveling 60mph down Lincoln Street and hit another car, which prompted him to get out of the vehicle.

The friend who was driving the car fled the scene following the crash.

Spokane Police are investigating the crash and continue to search for the driver.

The condition of the people involved in unknown.

Updated Aug. 23 at 4:45 a.m. – Police on scene told our reporter there was no Public Information Officer to speaker on the situation and directed him to a passenger.

Per that passenger, this scene was caused by breaks malfunctioning.

Original Coverage Aug. 23 at 4 a.m. – In the early morning hours starting just before 2 a.m. a heavy police presence has been felt in downtown Spokane.

A large perimeter has been established, multiple intersections and portions of Division Street are shut down.

Lincoln and Third currently has a blockade up, and multiple Sheriff and Spokane Police officers have been seen with lights on in the area and on the interstate.
