BOZEMAN, Mont. – As the school year approaches in Bozeman, students are celebrating new steps and drills they’ve learned at band camp.

The Gallatin High School Marching Band recently completed an intensive camp to get ready for their upcoming performances.

“It’s been nice to sort of grow that community and have more like traditions where every year we do the same thing and we just continue to sort of have fun and really show people what we can do and put on a good show,” drum major Ren Fritz said.

Fellow drum major William Carlson explained that the camp has been rigorous but enjoyable, with students focusing on learning new music for field shows and competitions. Both are seniors this year, their journey with the band going back to Gallatin High School’s opening in 2020.

“There’s a lot of positivity around the program, which was something that we were trying to build upon last year. And I think everyone’s buying into what we want to get done, and I’m super proud of them this week. So much hard work has gone into it, and they have handled it really well,” Carlson said.

The Gallatin High Marching Band’s first performance will be at the homecoming football game at 7 p.m. on September 13 at Van Winkle Stadium in Bozeman.
