SPOKANE, Wash. – Spokane police arrested a man suspected of a violent assault in the Garland District.
The Spokane Police Department responded to the Garland District on Aug. 15 after several people found a man unconscious and struggling to breathe.
He was quickly transported to the hospital and sustained significant head injuries in the assault.
During an investigation police say the victim was escorted out of a business and then assaulted outside. The suspect then ran off as police were called.
Detectives were able to identify the man and found him on Wednesday.
Johnnie Witherspoon, 48, was arrested and taken to Spokane County Jail where he is being held on 1st degree assault charges.
Witherspoon has an extensive criminal history with previous felony convictions for 1st Degree Burglary and Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The victim has not been identified and it is unknown his current condition.
