ELK, Wash., – Broadlinc, The Spokane Regional Broadband Development Authority announced plans to install a cellular on wheels (COW) in the Elk area to provide broadband internet to the area. The cellular tower can be placed in areas of highest need and be moved based on location and coverage demand. Pastor Jose Ng who opened his church up 24 hours a day after the Oregon road fire said that giving residents more options for internet will empower them and help with the rebuilding process.“The world is moving to an online world, and Elk has been left out. Starlink finally became an option, but can be expensive for some. I truly hope this gives our community some affordable options,” Ng said. Ariane Schmidt the Executive Director of Broadlinc said the ability to connect more homes is the goal of this program. “That’s going to give those households the ability to work from home, learn from home, possibly receive telehealth or mental health services,” Schmidt said. Broadlinc was created by the Spokane County Commissioners and will deliver a cellular on wheels or cow near the area of Elk which Rick Knapp with the Spokane Region Long Term Recovery Group said is a dead zone. Interested citizens would have to pay for the service. To find out pricing and coverage options, you can email admin@knightcom.net for more information.
