SPOKANE, Wash. — A man facing charges of attempted murder after pursuing and shooting at a couple made his first court appearance Tuesday afternoon.

Court documents reveal that on Aug. 11 around 9 p.m., a Spokane Police Department officer was patrolling South F Street and West Sunset Boulevard when a car pulled up beside him. The officer observed that the occupants, a man and a woman, appeared panicked. According to the documents, the couple explained their distress to the officer.

The driver of the car reported that he had been at his brother’s apartment complex near West 1st Street and South Adams Street with his girlfriend. As his girlfriend was exiting the car, a man later identified as Isaiah Hutton approached them, lifting his gray hoodie to reveal what seemed to be a handgun.

The couple hurried back into their car and drove away. Hutton then pursued them in another vehicle, firing shots and repeatedly attempting to run them off the road. The driver said Hutton fired so many shots that he believed he had emptied the gun’s magazine. The victims reported that Hutton tried several times to force them off the road.

While none of the bullets hit the victims’ car, numerous shell casings were found in the area. The victims believed Hutton targeted them because he thought they had reported him to the police over a domestic violence incident the previous night.

In addition to the domestic violence call on Aug. 10, police found another probable cause document dated Aug. 7, in which Hutton was accused of assault for kicking someone in the face several times, causing the victim to lose several teeth.

Hutton faces charges of first-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault, drive-by shooting and aiming/discharging firearms. He is being held on $750,000 bail, and his arraignment is scheduled for Sept. 17.
