SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. – A teenager has died in the hospital from injuries sustained in a car accident last Tuesday.

On Aug. 27, around 8:30 p.m., Spokane County deputies said they responded to a report of a crash involving a pedestrian in the 12600 block of West Melville Road near the Four Lakes community. At the scene, they found a truck partially blocking the westbound lane and a Jeep parked on the eastbound shoulder.

Firefighters from Spokane County Fire District 3 and medics were providing aid to the injured teenager, who was later transported to the hospital. He died from his injuries on Sunday morning.

The investigation revealed that the truck’s driver, also a teenager, had stopped to check his load’s tiedown straps. Another 17-year-old passenger got out and was standing near the centerline of the road. The Jeep, traveling east, struck the passenger. The Jeep driver stopped to assist.

Deputies said it was dark at the time, and both cars had their headlights on. The passenger was wearing dark clothing, and it is unclear why he was on the roadway. Speed and impairment are not believed to be factors in the accident.

The Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office said they will release the teen’s name and details about his death when appropriate.
