BOISE, Idaho – 82 people have died during Idaho’s deadliest days on the road with deaths in every district.
The deadliest days are marked from Memorial Day to Labor Day as more people are out of work and school putting them on the roads.
The Idaho Transportation Department reported that the top contributing circumstances for the fatal crashes were:
Fail to maintain laneSpeedingAlcohol impairmentInattentionFail to yieldCrossed centerlineOvercorrectingFollowing too closeImproper turnDrug impairment
ITD reported the number of deaths in each district with north Idaho (district 1) totaling 12 deaths in the 100-day span.
The number of deaths has slightly decreased since last year with 92 deaths reported in last year’s 100 deadliest days.
Highway Safety Manager Josephine Middleton noted the decrease but also continues to advocate for safe driving.
“While there were fewer crashes than last summer, we still lost 82 people during the 100 Deadliest Days. Every traffic death is a tragedy, and we can do more to prevent them,” Middleton said.
“Whether we are driving for work or fun, we can always drive engaged, always drive sober, and obey speed limits so that we don’t lose more Idahoans to traffic crashes.”
