Cusick man sentenced to federal prison for stealing $155,000 in COVID relief money

CUSICK, Wash. – A Cusick man was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison after he stole more than $155,000 dollars in COVID-19 relief funds.

Nathan Michael Triano, 41, was sentenced to on one count of Wire Fraud and the U.S. District Judge Thomas O. Rice imposed a sentence of 18 months in federal prison and 3 years of supervised release.

Triano will also be expected to pay $157,154.50 in restitution.

According to court documents, Triano used funds from 6 loans that were provided by the Paycheck Protection Program.

Triano was able to obtain the money by submitting false and fraudulent information concerning various alleged businesses.

He also was given $15,000.00 in lender fees totaling the amount to $155,865.00.

“Mr. Tirano’s actions caused limited funds to be diverted away from companies that needed the money, and instead went to line his own pockets,” stated U.S. Attorney Vanessa Waldref.
