SPOKANE COUNTY, Wash. — A Spokane County nurse has had his license suspended following charges of second-degree murder and first-degree assault with a firearm.

According to a press release from the Washington State Department of Health, the Washington State Board of Nursing suspended Marc Rinard’s license after allegations of an incident on Aug. 18. Rinard reportedly fired a gun at a couple traveling in the adjacent lane while both cars were stopped at a traffic light.

The press release said that the driver of the other car was hit in the upper chest and died at the scene. Rinard fled but was later arrested at his home. The press release noted that Rinard cannot practice as a registered nurse in Washington while legal proceedings continue. He has 20 days from the date of the summary suspension to contest the action.

Legal documents related to the case can be accessed online through the Provider Credential Search on the Department of Health website, or copies can be requested by calling 360-236-4700.
