Chelan County Sheriff’s Office joins fight against online child exploitation

CHELAN COUNTY, Wash. – The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has entered into a new agreement to combat online child exploitation.

Sheriff Mike Morrison reported that, on September 13, 2024, the CCSO joined forces with the Washington State Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, a program created by the Department of Justice (DOJ) to aid law enforcement in addressing technology-facilitated child sexual exploitation.

In February 2024, CCSO’s Investigative Unit launched an initiative focused on internet-based child abuse within Chelan County. This operation culminated in a significant crackdown on offenders by July 2024.

The CCSO worked in collaboration with the Washington State Patrol’s Missing and Exploited Children Task Force (MECTF) and other agencies in a joint operation called “Net Nanny.”

These operations led to several arrests in Chelan and Douglas County but also highlighted the need for more resources.

To address this need, CCSO formalized an interagency agreement to access additional resources and reduce the financial burden on taxpayers.

CCSO will continue to focus on safeguarding justice and protecting the community. “Our goal is to protect and serve while remaining ‘Of the People. For the People,'” emphasized Morrison.
