DEER PARK, Wash. – The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) reports that between Sept. 9 through 12, in the area of East C Street, cars and personal property were vandalized. “There was sunflowers that were cut down… Potted plants being thrown out into the middle of the street,” Khyndra Tallman, a resident of Deer Park, said. SCSO told NonStop Local that mailboxes were reportedly damaged and two vehicles were smashed, including Tallman’s. “I went out to my car to leave for work and noticed something kind of odd. So, I went out to the back of my car. The windshield was smashed out and there was a log, I guess you could call it a log, through the window,” Tallman said. SCSO said callers reported hearing yelling in the neighborhood at the time of these incidents. However, there is no description of a suspect or suspects. Because of this, SCSO cannot officially confirm that these incidents on the block were connected. But the time frames do overlap. Tallman told NonStop Local that neighbors speculate that it was teenagers causing the damage, with some neighbors telling her they saw teenagers in the early morning hours of Sept. 12. “And one neighbor specifically saw two younger looking teenagers run down the street, but without seeing their faces… But you could tell that someone had gone around and just kinda wreaked havoc down the street,” Tallman said. Neighbors set up an online fundraiser for Tallman to help repair her car. They raised enough money to aid with repair costs. “It’s frustrating when you live in a small town and you feel this safety and security… But, before I could really even process anything negative, my community, like, just wrapped me up and held me. And I feel really lucky to live in the neighborhood that I do,” Tallman said. SCSO encourages the public to contact Crime Check if they have any information on these incidents.
