Spokane Valley City Council meets on construction repairs and lawsuit

SPOKANE VALLEY, Wash. – The Spokane Valley City Council received an update on the costs for repairing their council chambers.

The building, constructed in 2017, showed deficiencies quickly. These structural issues across City Hall prompted the city to sue the four companies involved in construction to help cover repairs.

City Council spent a year at Center Place Regional Event Center due to these structural issues. Tonight, the council got their first update on the new council chambers.

In January 2023, City Council allocated up to $4 million for Garco Construction to fix the chambers. The project ultimately cost just under $3.7 million. The city is paying this out-of-pocket but hopes to recoup some costs through a lawsuit filed in 2020. The trial is scheduled for next summer if no deal is reached before then.

While critical repairs to the council chambers are finished, other areas of City Hall also need work.
