CHENEY, Wash. — Windsor Elementary School and Westwood Middle School are currently on lockdown following reports of a person with a firearm. However, the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office stated that it appears to have been kids playing with airsoft guns nearby.

Cheney Public Schools announced on Facebook that parents are not allowed to enter the schools to pick up their children during the lockdown.

Deputies remain on the scene conducting an investigation and said that it appears that the situation involves kids playing with airsoft guns. The school district stated that buses 63, 74 and 86 from Windsor Elementary left before the lockdown began and are continuing on their regular routes. The remaining buses are currently stationed at Snowdon Elementary, awaiting the lockdown’s conclusion.

Cheney Public Schools and law enforcement have assured that all students and staff are safe within the school buildings.
