WORLEY, Idaho — Worley firefighters saved a puppy stuck in a culvert pipe on Saturday.
According to a Facebook post from the firefighters, on Sept. 14, they responded to a report of a puppy trapped in a culvert pipe. Using thermal imaging and a fiber optic camera, the firefighters located the puppy, named Charlie, around 40 feet down the pipe.
Firefighters noted that the culvert was too narrow for a person to enter, prompting firefighters, homeowners and community members to dig in order to save the pup. An excavator from Rock Solid Brush Control & Excavation was called in to help with the rescue.
Once access was gained, the team discovered that the puppy, Charlie was about ten feet further down the pipe, stuck at a joint. Due to the smooth interior of the pipe and its sloping angle, the puppy was unable to move forward. Rescuers used Kong Peanut Butter spread and a PVC pipe with a “pet loop” to safely retrieve Charlie from the culvert.
Worley firefighters thanked the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department for providing the fiber optic camera, which played a crucial role in locating the puppy. They also thanked the community members who participated in the digging effort.
