SPOKANE, Wash. – Visitors to Avista Stadium will notice major construction work underway as the Spokane Indians Baseball Team upgrades their facility. The project, part of a $16.5 million construction initiative, began right after the season ended and is set to be completed by opening day in April 2025.

“The overall experience for the athlete is much improved. For this phase, it’s the entire playing surface of the field,” said Otto Klein, Senior Vice President of the Spokane Indians Baseball Team.

Improvements include installing a major league-quality field with enhanced drainage, upgrading dugouts, and expanding the safety net from first to third base.

“Fan safety is obviously one of the biggest things we strive for, and that will help us a lot,” Klein said.

The construction is mandated by Major League Baseball and funded through Spokane County, the Spokane Indians Baseball Team, state funds and fundraising efforts.

“Whether it’s $1 or $16 million of taxpayer money, we have been able to manage that as efficiently as possible, and as a result, we have one of the best venues in the country…. We hopefully in the next few weeks will be able to announce a technology component that’s going to be an improvement to the stadium,” Klein said
