COLFAX, Wash. – A fast-moving fire near Colfax has expanded to over 1,000 acres, prompting evacuation orders Thursday morning.
Whitman County Fire District 13 has called for additional resources. Two strike teams, a hand crew, and a bulldozer are enroute to assist local crews.
The State Fire Marshal’s Office has issued level 3 and level 2 evacuation notices in the affected areas. In a release they noted that it is burning in grass and brush and is threatening homes, crops and rangeland.
Local firefighters are also on scene with State Fire Marshal’s assisting the attack on the flames.
Further details on the fire’s location and the number of people impacted are still emerging.
