SPOKANE, Wash. — An off-duty firefighter joined fire crews to help put out a fire that was threatening homes in the South Hill on Wednesday.
A was called out on Sept. 25 and when the first engine arrived, they discovered the fire was spreading quickly.
“As they pulled their initial leads for fire attack, out of the smoke came a guy wearing a pair of shorts, a tee shirt and some sanuks,” said Spokane Firefighters in a Facebook post. That guy was Chris Rogers, a firefighter and paramedic, who saw firefighters trying to contain a fast-moving brush fire on the South Hill.
According to the post, Rogers quickly took the lead and worked on putting out the fire until on-duty crews were able to take over.
“Chris is an extremely active member of the Spokane Firefighters Union Local 29,” said Spokane Firefighters. ” When not fighting fires off duty or making a difference on duty, Chris can be found volunteering for a union event or raising his three daughters.”
