A judge considers whether to clarify 2 new Georgia election certification rules

ATLANTA (AP) — A judge is considering whether to issue clarification or guidance for two rules from the Georgia State Election Board that have to do with county certification of election results. Supporters say the rules will help ensure the accuracy of the vote totals. But critics worry that Donald Trump supporters could use the rules to delay or deny certification if the former president loses. The lawsuit was the subject of a bench trial Tuesday. One rule provides a definition of certification that includes requiring county officials to conduct a “reasonable inquiry” before certification. The other includes language allowing county election officials “to examine all election related documentation created during the conduct of elections.”
