CHENEY, Wash. — Eastern Washington University warned students and staff about the presence of “date rape drugs” on campus.

According to The Spokesman-Review, this warning was issued after after two students reported that their drinks may have been tampered with during recent sorority and fraternity parties. The Spokesman-Review said that the students experienced symptoms consistent with unknowingly ingesting substances like Rohypnol, commonly referred to as “roofies.” These drugs can make victims feel sleepy, detached, or unwell, and may affect their memory.

The university police were investigating these incidents, as noted by The Spokesman-Review.

In response to these reports, the university urged students to remain vigilant when attending parties according to the Spokesman-Review. They recommended not leaving drinks unattended, only accepting drinks from trusted sources, and avoiding communal punch bowls.

If anyone suspected they had been affected by a date rape drug, they were advised to seek medical attention right away and request a urine test.
