SPOKANE, Wash, – “Eventually it just… I don’t want to say it became my personality, but it came kind of close,” said Burr Martin, Spokane’s regional Ghostbuster.
Martin has a lot of Ghostbusters gear. He has a car with decals on the side and custom plates. He has a full outfit with a replica backpack, goggles, and various other ghost hunting equipment.
Since Martin was just a kid he had an obsession with paranormal activity. When Ghostbusters first came out in 1984, he instantly fell in love with the series.
Martin started by watching the movie… Over… And over… and over again before secretly recording the audio just to listen to it in his car during his daily commutes.
Then he started collecting replicas and dressing as a Ghostbuster each year for Halloween. Not just for his fandom, but also for the children.
“The way I look at it,” said Martin. “Ghostbusters are Santa Claus for Halloween, because they are not scary, and if a kid is scared, oh well there’s a Ghostbuster, he’s here to save the day. He’s the good guy…”
If you are wondering just how much all this gear cost, Martin says if his family is reading, it was all free.
If not, it’s into quadruple digits.
