SPOKANE, Wash. – A local art festival is seeking to change perceptions of downtown Spokane, focusing on its vibrant culture and community.
Terrain, the region’s largest art festival, celebrates its 15th anniversary. Ginger Ewing, the festival’s executive director and co-founder, spoke about the event’s impact.
Ewing, a lifelong Spokane resident, has been hosting Terrain downtown since 2008. She emphasized the positive nature of the area. “It just makes me super proud to be a ‘Spokanite’ to live in the city and again to see our community show up for local artists,” she added.
Operations director Jackie Caro also shared her thoughts on the matter. “We’ve never felt unsafe down here and what we wanna do is really bring people down here to show them how wonderful downtown is,” stated Caro.
Noah McLaren, a local resident attending Terrain, acknowledged the challenges but remains undeterred. “That’s part of downtown,” he said, expressing his appreciation for the area’s unique aspects. “There’s still a little parts of downtown that are cool,” added McLaren.
Caro highlighted the community’s support during Terrain’s preview night. “I mean, you see just like the entire community here it’s amazing,” she said.
Terrain’s full show is set for Friday, Oct. 4 from 5 p.m. until midnight, inviting everyone to experience the art and community downtown Spokane has to offer.
