Rathdrum police warn citizens of scam calls impersonating officers

RATHDRUM, Idaho — The Rathdrum Police Department is alerting the public about people posing as police officers and contacting citizens to falsely claim they have outstanding warrants.

Police said that the scammers are reportedly requesting payment and/or personal information.

“If you receive a call or any other form of communication of this nature, please HANG UP, as this is a scam.”

Police said that the scammers may attempt to intimidate recipients by warning them not to hang up.

The department said that legitimate police officers will never call citizens to request payment for warrants. Residents are strongly encouraged not to provide any personal information and to contact their local law enforcement agency if they have any questions regarding outstanding warrants.
