COEUR D’ALENE, Idaho — A K-9 from Idaho Disaster Dogs Search and Rescue has been deployed help those impacted by Hurricane Helene.
According to a Facebook post from the Coeur d’Alene Fire Department, K-9 Scout was sent with Washington State Task Force-1 FEMA Urban Search and Rescue (WA-TF1) to supply resources and help to those caught in the ongoing hurricane.
WA-TF1 left on Saturday with two tractor-trailers and several trucks with 90,000 pounds of equipment. According to Pierce County Department of Emergency Management, around 80 people will converge in Atlanta on Tuesday, deploy to either Florida or North Carolina, and stay on scene for 14 days.
According to an article from AP News, Hurricane Helene’s death toll has reached 227 people as of Saturday, Oct. 5, impacting those living in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, North Carolina and Tennessee. The hurricane hit on Sept. 26 as a Category 4 hurricane, destroying roads and buildings as well as knocking out electricity and cell phone service.
