SPOKANE, Wash. — Spokane police detained a man armed with a gun who was in a state of crisis Tuesday morning.
According to a press release from the Spokane Police Department, officers responded to the area of Francis Avenue and Maple Street after multiple 911 calls reported a man walking with a gun and pointing it at his head and under his chin. The initial call originated from Wellesley Avenue and Ash Street, prompting local schools to be advised of the situation.
Police said they located the man and detained him without incident. They confirmed he was armed and, during their interaction, officers determined he was in crisis based on concerning statements he made. SPD officers seized the gun, and the man was transported to a hospital for evaluation.
