Washington State Patrol chase man speeding wrong way through three counties

SPOKANE, Wash. – A man made his first appearance in Superior Court Friday for .

According to court documents, Washington State Patrol was alerted to Jose Rivera Rodriguez allegedly driving north in the southbound lanes of State Route 395 in Adams County.

“The vehicle began to pass traffic on the shoulder and was traveling at a rate well above the posted speed limit of 70 MPH. I was traveling at 100 MPH to catch up to the vehicle and was not gaining,” a state patrol trooper said in the court documents.

After the patrol officer turned on their emergency lights as Rodriguez allegedly continued speeding into Lincoln County. Rodriguez then purportedly swerved into an exit and entered Interstate 90 the wrong way, speeding into Spokane County.

After the trooper’s car hit the vehicle Rodriguez was allegedly driving, state patrol performed a PIT maneuver to stop the car, causing it to enter the roadway ditch.

Rodriguez allegedly tried to run away, but was caught. Fake money and fentanyl were found on him according to court documents.

“A large amount of money was located in [his] wallet along with what is believed to be a fake United States of American Citizen card,” court documents say.

Rodriguez now faces trial in Adams County. His bond was set at $100,000.
