SPOKANE, Wash. — Over 30,000 people in Spokane are participating in an earthquake drill on Thursday.

According to Spokane Regional Health District, 34,000 Spokane residents and 1.4 million people in Washington will participate in an earthquake drill on Oct. 17 through the Shake Out program. People at home, school and work will learn the steps and precautions to take if an earthquake ever happens.

The earthquake will be at 10:17 a.m. on Thursday, and depending on where you are when the drill happens, you will practice specific guidelines on how to survive and stay safe during an earthquake.

In most scenarios, Shake Out says to drop, cover and hold on. Drop on your hands and knees to protect yourself from being knocked down by flying objects. Cover your head and neck with one arm and hand, and crawl under a sturdy table or desk.

You can sign up to join the earthquake drill at The Great Washington ShakeOut – How to Participate.
