SPOKANE, Wash. — A 12-year-old has been arrested for allegedly .
According to a press release from the Spokane Police Department (SPD), officers responded to a report that a student had a weapon. A classmate informed a staff member that the suspect had shown him the gun and instructed him not to tell anyone.
Officers said they quickly located the suspect and took his backpack. However, he fled the campus after 911 was called.
Police said they found a loaded handgun inside the backpack. Patrol officers subsequently located the student a short distance from the school and detained him without incident.
The 12-year-old was taken into custody for possession of dangerous weapons on school facilities and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. He was booked into the Spokane County Juvenile Detention Center.
