LIBERTY LAKE, Wash. – Spokane Valley firefighters and other emergency responders successfully airlifted an injured mountain biker over the weekend.
According to the Spokane Valley Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched Saturday to assist a mountain biker injured on the trails above Liberty Lake. Due to the steep terrain, crews brought a Utility Terrain Vehicle and alerted the air emergency unit about the potential need for a helicopter.
With the assistance of a bystander in the area, firefighters located and reached the biker. Crews determined that a ground evacuation was not feasible, so they carried the patient to an open area where they were hoisted by helicopter and flown to a landing zone at Ridgeline High School.
Fire crews reported that the injured biker was subsequently transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
