KITSAP COUNTY, Wash.-The Washington Department of Agriculture is investigating a possible Northern Giant Hornet found near Burley.
Commonly referred to as “murder hornets” the Northern Giant is considered an invasive species.
The WSDA investigation began when the agency receive a photo of a hornet found dead on a windowsill in Burley near Port Orchard, according to the agency.
Those in the surrounding areas are asked to report any similar sightings.
Murder hornets were last found in Washington in 2021 and genetic testing will be done to determine if it is indeed a murder hornet, according to the WSDA.
