SPOKANE, Wash. — The Spokane Mayor’s Office released a statement today condemning a racist comment made during a virtual town hall meeting.

According to Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown, the remark occurred during Wednesday’s Q&A forum.

In their statement, they said: “During tonight’s virtual town hall, an individual posted racist remarks in the question-and-answer forum. This behavior is deeply disturbing and completely unacceptable, as it undermined the respectful dialogue by all other participants. We condemn these comments in the strongest terms and are taking steps to address the situation and ensure that all future forums remain safe for all participants.”

The statement was issued jointly by Mayor Brown, Spokane Police Chief Kevin Hal and Fire Chief Julie O’Berg.
