SPOKANE, Wash. – In the early hours of Wednesday morning, Elvir Donlic and his wife woke to a violent attack in his drive where two men with hammers ganged up on another man defending himself with a large knife.
Donlic captured the attack on his security camera – it happened an arm length away from his front doorsteps.
“I don’t know what to do, I cannot help him. I am scared. I don’t know what to do. I don’t want to touch him because he could do anything! I told my wife don’t touch him or anything. We just called cops,” Donlic said.
In the video, the men with hammers accuse the man with a knife of threatening to kill a family member along with previously initiating the confrontation by striking one of them with the “machete.”
One man with a hammer appears to be the aggressor by the time the video captures the scene; the accomplice seems to be a voice of reason by asking the other hammer wielding man to end the fight. The aggressor throws a rock at the man with a knife bringing the apparent victim to the ground. At this point, the aggressor continues to strike a defenseless man – curled up in the fetal position – twice with his hammer.
The men began to leave once Donlic’s wife opened the front door.
“She can be scary too,” Donlic said.
The men with hammers ran away before police arrived. The apparent victim was badly hurt, according to Donlic. Police took him away, he said.
Donlic called 911 and filed a police report. Both the Spokane Police Department and Spokane Sheriff’s Office responded. He does not know which department collected the police report.
Neither the Spokane Police nor the Spokane County Sheriff’s Office could confirm to KHQ Thursday which department was leading the investigation and which department was simply assisting with the call.
This story will be updated as KHQ continues to learn more about the attack.
