METALINE FALLS, Wash. — Drivers are advised to exercise caution due to sudden waterflow over Highway 31 at the Sullivan Creek bridge, located near the old powerhouse. The roadway is slick with mud, posing a potential hazard for drivers.
According to the Pend Oreille County Fire District 2, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT), U.S. Border Patrol and Pend Oreille Public Utility District (PUD) were on the scene managing traffic and ensuring the safety of both drivers and workers. The fire district said that the waterflow is a result of a water main break.
According to Pend Oreille PUD, water service is expected to be restored by Friday morning, though an exact time has not been determined. Utility personnel said that they will be on-site throughout the night, and drivers are urged to be vigilant for workers around the roadway.
Residents are also advised to turn off hot water heaters to prevent damage, as draining can lead to element burnout.
Additionally, a Boil Water Notice has been issued for customers who still have water. Those affected should boil water by bringing it to a rolling boil for one minute and allow it to cool before using it for drinking, ice-making, brushing teeth, washing dishes, or food preparation until further notice.
