SPOKANE, Wash. – A woman was injured after a man followed her to her car and attacked her on Thursday.

Around 12:15 p.m. on Thursday near the WSU Health Science Campus, Michael J. Trout, 27, attacked a woman after seeing her walking.

According to the Spokane Police Department the woman called in after she escaped the attack by biting, scratching, and clawing at his face.

Police say Trout made eye contact with the woman, smiled, and began following her to her car. As the woman was placing items in her car she was grabbed from behind and then spun around.

Trout allegedly placed his hands on her throat and squeezed while attempting to force her down.

After fighting back and biting Trout on the hand near her throat, Trout ran off. He discarded multiple items while running that helped police identify him.

Multiple witnesses gave police statements and after collecting evidence they tracked Trout to an apartment near 500 East Everett Avenue.

He was detained 90 minutes after the assault and booked into Spokane County Jail. He is charged with 2nd degree assault.
