SPOKANE, Wash. – As winter approaches, the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) encourages drivers to prepare for the season as road conditions begin to change.
Nov. 1 will mark the first day that studded tires will be available for legal use but WSDOT is reminding drivers of other options for the winter season.
Year-round stud free winter tires can be a great option for drivers and cause less roadway damage compared to studded tires. According to WSDOT studded tires contribute $20 million to $29 million annually in damage.
WSDOT also wanted to remind Washington drivers that teams have been trained and are prepared to tackle the roads for the winter season.
“As we do every winter, crews will ‘swarm to the storm’ and move crews and equipment to hard-hit or priority routes during storms.” Maintenance Operations Manager James Morin said.
