GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Benefis Sletten Cancer Institute is hosting a healthy tailgating event as part of its initiative to promote cancer prevention and healthful living.

This community event is set to take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at 1117 29th St. S.

At the event, called “Kick Cancer in the Tailgate,” attendees will learn about lifestyle changes that reduce cancer risk. This includes insights into nutrition and physical activity.

There will also be an opportunity for participants to receive a two-minute mouth and throat cancer screening to address one of America’s fastest-growing cancers.

Participants can enjoy nutritious food samples with a twist, as well as fun mocktails. These healthy treats will be available at the Husted Teaching Kitchen, where attendees can also collect recipe cards to inspire their cooking at home.

Cancer survivors and community members can contribute to the Handprints of Hope tunnel, an art tribute to survivorship and support.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, in Montana, an average of 6,470 invasive cancer cases were diagnosed each year between 2016 and 2020. Of these, over half occurred among men.

This ongoing battle against cancer makes events like this vital for awareness and prevention.
