Cargo plane makes emergency landing in Spokane due to report of fire

SPOKANE, Wash. – A UPS plane had to be diverted back to the Spokane airport after only 48 minutes in the air due to a reported fire in the cargo hold.

Updated on Oct. 23 at 9 a.m. – UPS reached out to NonStop Local and said there was no active fire in the emergency landing in Spokane.

Crews noticed a false indicator light and for safety precaution reasons declared an emergency and redirected the flight.

The flight landed safely, and the plane successfully made it back to the gate to be serviced.

Original Coverage Oct. 23 at 7:30 a.m. – The Spokane Fire Department is responding to the Spokane International Airport as the plane has now landed safely. The cargo plane was a Boeing 767 according to the flight report.

SFD said a fire was reported in the cargo hold section of the plane and no injuries are reported. There were two people on the plane during the incident.

The cargo plane was headed for Louisville around 6:45 a.m. when it had to be diverted back to Spokane due to the fire. The plane nearly reached Missoula before it turned around.
