SPOKANE, Wash. – Washington workers will now pay higher premiums in 2025 for paid family and medical leave.
Washington State law requires the premium amount to be calculated every year by the Employment Security Department. The increase comes after an account deficient in 2023 due to claims outpacing premiums.
Beginning in 2025 the premium will increase from 0.74% to 0.92% so employers will pay 28.48% of the premium and employees will pay 71.52%.
The rate is readjusted every year in Oct. based off program usage and premiums collected in the previous year.
Small businesses that have 50 or fewer employees are exempt from paying this premium if they collect employee premium or pay the employees’ premiums.
