WHITMAN COUNTY, Wash. — An investigation is ongoing following reports that hundreds of ballots have gone missing in the Whitman County area.

According to Whitman County Auditor Sandy Jamison, between 200 and 300 ballots did not reach their intended destinations after being scanned by the United States Postal Service in Spokane.

Jamison stated that the issue appears to primarily affect voters with P.O. boxes in Garfield. She urged residents who have not received their ballots to contact her office immediately.

“We are working to ensure that every voter missing a ballot gets one before election day,” Jamison said.

Voters can reach the auditor’s office directly or request a replacement ballot online through the state service VoteWA.gov. Jamison said that she has received numerous calls from concerned voters throughout the day.

The U.S. Postal Service is currently investigating the matter, but no conclusions have been reached yet. UPS has also been notified and is reviewing the situation with the county.

As of now, the missing ballots have not been located. The county’s election office is committed to resolving the issue swiftly to ensure all eligible voters can participate in the upcoming election.
