Washington state says election betting remains illegal despite popular gambling sites

SPOKANE, Wash. – Despite the popular gambling websites and the enticing large money prizes, betting on the Presidental Election is still illegal in Washington and Idaho.

The Washington State Gambling Commission has stated that betting on elections remains illegal within the state, despite claims from a growing gambling site ‘Kalshi‘, a regulated prediction site.

Kalshi has recently begun offering opportunities to bet on elections. However, the commission has emphasized that such activities are not permitted in Washington state.

In Idaho, betting on elections is considered a misdemeanor. Despite these legal restrictions, Kalshi has reportedly received $130 million in bets or trades on the presidential election alone.

Kalshi’s claim of being regulated and legal across the nation contrasts with the stance of state authorities in Washington and Idaho. The situation highlights ongoing legal challenges and differing regulations across states regarding election betting.
